Shivam Singh Credits Shikhar Dhawan for His Success

Dindigul Dragons’ opener Shivam Singh is making headlines this season in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) with his exceptional performances. As the tournament approaches the playoffs, Singh leads the Orange Cap standings, showcasing his remarkable batting form throughout the season. His impressive run-scoring has been a key highlight for the Dragons and has set him apart as one of the top performers in the league.

Shivam Singh Gave Credit to Shikhar Dhawan:

In his second TNPL season, Shivam Singh has delivered impressive innings with scores of 78, 106* (not out), and 70. His 78-run innings showcased his ability to clear the boundaries against pacers, hitting 6 fours and 5 sixes. His unbeaten 106 highlighted his mastery over spinners, smashing 10 sixes and 6 fours, including three consecutive sixes in an over. In his 70-run innings, he adapted his approach, maintaining his performance despite losing partners.

Singh’s recent performances underline his versatility and power. The 78-run knock demonstrated his aggressive play against fast bowlers, while his unbeaten century featured a dominant display against spin, with seven of his ten sixes coming off spinners. His 70-run innings, though marked by some restraint, showcased his adaptability and determination to anchor the innings while managing frequent partner changes.

He attributes much of his exceptional performance to PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan’s guidance and leadership during his time with the Punjab Kings have been pivotal in shaping his game. The support and insights he received from Dhawan have significantly contributed to his impressive run in the current tournament, reflecting the impact of Dhawan’s mentorship on his cricketing journey.

He said, “ You learn a lot from a tournament like IPL. You share such an experience with the legends. And I especially have a person who’s my mentor. He’s like my elder brother. Shikhar Dhawan. I keep learning a lot from him, both personally and professionally. It (his improvement) is all because of him. We discuss a lot. We don’t discuss cricket that much, but we do discuss life a lot – my thought processes, my way of living life and all. He’s the one who’s shown me the path to live life positively, to be one step ahead in life.”

He Also Talked About IPL:

His impressive recent form can be linked to the confidence gained during his time with the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL. Although he didn’t feature in the 2023 IPL season, he made an appearance in the most recent edition, which may have bolstered his performance in the current TNPL season.

He said, “ Whenever you come from a tournament like IPL, you see yourself filled with so much of confidence. Technique and all is within you, but mindset is the thing – you kind of aim up. You have a strong mindset to approach the game. You learn to have a champion mindset.”

He added, “ You face international players. The standard is a bit different. Like, you’ll be facing some more pace there. You play bowlers like (Kagiso) Rabada and all. They are a bit quicker, so that is something that you add to your batting – how to negotiate pace and all. When it’s your first time (facing such bowlers), even in the nets, there is a bit of tentativeness. But when you play a few balls, it’s fine. Your skill takes over then.”

His Performance in TNPL:

In the modern T20 format, every team boasts a dynamic opener known for their aggressive boundary-hitting in the Powerplay. For the Dindigul Dragons, Shivam Singh fills this role. With 296 runs at an average of 49.33 from just seven matches, he leads the Orange Cap standings for this Tamil Nadu Premier League season, showcasing his exceptional performance and consistency at the top of the order.
