Shreyas Iyer hits back at false claims of missing next Ranji Trophy fixture due to injury

Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer expressed his frustration over false reports suggesting that he would miss Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match due to a shoulder injury. The speculation about his injury came as a surprise to fans and cricket pundits alike, especially given Iyer’s recent form. The Mumbai batter has been performing well, and his active presence on the field suggests he is fit for the upcoming matches.

Iyer’s public dismissal of the injury reports comes in response to growing rumors, fueled by multiple media outlets, that suggested he was sidelined due to a shoulder injury. According to several media reports, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sources had claimed that Iyer would need to rest for a week, missing the crucial upcoming Ranji Trophy match. This, however, turned out to be inaccurate, as the cricketer himself slammed the reports, calling them out for spreading false news. Mumbai will next face Tripura in the Ranji Trophy on October 26.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Iyer denied the claims and criticized the media for not verifying information before publishing. He urged reporters to “Guys seriously let’s do some homework before publishing news,” refuting the rumors that were circulating online.  The incident has once again raised concerns about the accuracy of media reporting in sports. Iyer’s pointed remarks on X have put the spotlight on how unchecked sources can lead to unnecessary confusion and miscommunication within the sports community.

Iyer back in form after tough start to 2024

Shreyas Iyer’s recent outburst follows an impressive return to form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. The right-handed batter scored a crucial 142 runs off 190 balls against Maharashtra, steering Mumbai to victory after a shocking defeat in their opening match against Baroda.

This was a much-needed performance for Iyer, who had struggled earlier in the year, leading to his exclusion from the Indian Test team during the home series against England and then eventually from BCCI’s central contract. Despite being overlooked for key matches, Iyer’s commitment to domestic cricket has been unwavering. His latest performance proves that he still has the potential to make a strong comeback, both for his state team and potentially for India’s national side.
