Shreyas Iyer Plans for PBKS After IPL 2025 Final Defeat
Shreyas Iyer’s debut season as Punjab Kings captain in IPL 2025 ended in heartbreak, but it also marked a turning point in the franchise’s history. Let’s look at Shreyas Iyer Plans for PBKS After IPL 2025 Final.
Despite a narrow 6-run defeat in the final to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Iyer’s leadership steered Punjab to only their second-ever IPL final, rekindling belief among fans and players alike.
The campaign had moments of brilliance, a few setbacks, but overall, a clear sense of direction and purpose was visible throughout.
The Kings, with 9 wins from 14 league matches and a commendable Net Run Rate of +0.372, were one of the most consistent teams this season. They began strongly with back-to-back wins over Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, before stumbling briefly against Rajasthan Royals.
However, wins over powerhouses like Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders solidified their position in the top four. Rain interruptions and a suspended match against Delhi Capitals slightly disrupted their momentum, but Punjab responded well to beat Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 after a heavy loss to RCB in Qualifier 1.
In the summit clash, chasing a modest target set by Bengaluru, Punjab’s batting lineup—strong all season, couldn’t quite find the rhythm required on a tacky Ahmedabad surface.
Despite getting close, RCB’s bowlers held their nerve in the death overs. Reflecting after the game, Shreyas Iyer acknowledged that the score was chaseable but credited the opponents for executing their plans better.
More importantly, he highlighted the character and growth of the team, especially the young players who impressed in their debut seasons.
“I am very proud of each and every individual who has participated in the team… And also, you know, job is still half done and we have to receive the trophy next year,” said Iyer.
With that determined message, the Kings have laid down a foundation for future glory. Under Iyer’s calm yet passionate leadership, Punjab no longer look like underachievers—they look like contenders. If 2025 was the beginning, 2026 might just be their crowning moment.
