The 2026 BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells concluded on Sunday with Jannik Sinner claiming his maiden title in the California desert in a tense, high-quality final against Daniil Medvedev.
The World No. 2 Italian triumphed 7-6(6), 7-6(4) in 1 hour 55 minutes, never dropping a set throughout the fortnight and completing a historic milestone.
Sinner became just the third man in ATP history to win all six hard-court Masters 1000 titles (Indian Wells, Miami, Canada, Cincinnati, Shanghai, Paris), joining Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.
He also became the first player since the Masters 1000 series began in 1990 to win consecutive events without dropping a set.

These two have had some great hard-court matches over recent years, with Medvedev dominating the H2H early, only for Sinner to roar back into the lead (now 9-7 after today’s win), and this match was no different.
Medvedev started aggressively, which he had to, winning the first six points and pressuring Sinner throughout the opener (including forcing a medical timeout for Sinner’s right ankle at 3-4).
Neither man was able to break serve (Sinner had two break points), leading to a tiebreak in which Sinner was more clinical; he seized control after Medvedev’s poor decision to leave a ball that dropped in at 5-4 and closed out his second set point (after netting a forehand at 6-5).
Set two followed suit with no breaks and no break points, heading to another tiebreak. Medvedev surged to a 4-0 lead, but Sinner flipped the script with composure, winning seven straight points to seal victory.
The difference was as expected: Sinner’s ruthless efficiency made the difference. He won 91% (43/47) of first-serve points and didn’t fake a break point.
The victory narrows Sinner’s gap to World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz (2,150 points behind) heading into the clay swing, which the Italian missed last year due to a doping ban.
For Medvedev, he’s got back in form. The Meddy of last year wouldn’t have picked up more than 6 games, so to push Sinner the distance in each set (given how well the Italian served) is impressive. He’ll probably be disappointed with that non-volley at 5-4 in the first breaker, and not capitalising a 4-0 lead in the second but Sinner was too solid overall.
