Six Nations announce team of tournament as one Wales star named and England snubbed

The official team of the tournament has been announced following a public vote

Wales prop Rhys Carré has been named in the official Six Nations team of the tournament, with no English players making the cut.

The Saracens loosehead finished the championship as Wales’ top try-scorer having bagged three over the course of the campaign, including a remarkable individual try against Ireland that saw him make headlines across the world. Having also scored against France and Scotland, Carre also offered Steve Tandy’s side huge momentum and physicality in attack, with Sam Warburton naming him as Wales’ “most impactful player” of the Six Nations.

Now, a public vote has seen thousands of rugby fans agree with Warburton, with Carré making it into the official team of the tournament as the sole Welsh representative.

However, while only one player in a red jersey has made the cut, Wales are still faring better than England, who have no players in the tournament’s ultimate XV after a miserable campaign.

Steve Borthwick’s side came into the championship hailed as potential Grand Slam winners but finished the tournament in fifth place with a single win to their name.

After easily defeating Wales in the opening round, England fell to bruising defeats to Scotland and Ireland before suffering a first ever loss to Italy in Rome.

While they fronted up much better in Paris on Super Saturday, they were beaten again by champions France, who sealed the title with the last kick of the game.

Their dismal run of form has seen no English players make it in to the official team of the tournament, with the rest of the side split fairly evenly between France, Ireland, Scotland and Italy.

Unsurprisingly, the French have the joint-most representatives, with lock Mickaël Guillard flying the flag for Les Bleus in the forwards while scrum-half Antoine Dupont, full-back Thomas Ramos and record try-scorer Louis Bielle-Biarrey are named amongst the backs.

Having narrowly missed out on the title, Ireland also have four players involved, with Tadgh Beirne included in the second row while Jack Conan and Caelen Doris are named in the back row. Stuart McCloskey is also included at inside centre.

Scotland – who were also in contention for the tournament crown going into Super Saturday – have three representatives in the team, with Rory Darge, Finn Russell and Kyle Steyn all included.

Finally, the Italians also have three players involved, with Simone Ferrari and Giacomo Nicotera named in the front row and Tommaso Menoncello picked at outside centre.

2026 Six Nations team of the tournament: 15. Thomas Ramos (FRA), 14. Kyle Steyn (SCO), 13. Tommaso Menoncello (ITA), 12. Stuart McCloskey (IRE), 11. Louis Bielle-Biarrey (FRA), 10.
