Sorrento to Venice by Train

Sorrento to Venice by Train

Today we had a leisurely start with a 10:20 train to Naples, then a noon train to Venice Santa Lucia, arriving around 5:30pm. It was a nice journey and easy…Susan slept most of the trip, and we all enjoyed the scenery and a relaxing day. FYI the Trenitalia app works well to make long distance train reservations.

Above…not so sure about the fish pizza there especially as it looks like cheese under it (maybe a white sauce?). But all the pastries looked very good!

The train took us right across the water into Venice. We had a 10 minute walk to our apartment which is just off one of the larger canals, and we saw several water buses go past tonight. We walked in, dropped off our bags and went out to explore. Venice is quite a change to the residential area of Sorrento where we were staying. The area was busy and we saw lots of pastry, gelato and food shops, restaurants, shops selling Venetian masks, and Murano glass. Big, thick pieces of pizza were displayed for takeaway. There were large fruit & vegetable stalls, with beautiful looking strawberries.

We had dinner at a restaurant across the canal from out apartment. Venice is known for its seafood amongst other things, so I had a grilled fish platter, which arrived perfectly cooked.

I made a quick stop at the grocery store (of course…it was about to close and hands were full…so photos eventually will appear) after dinner…tomorrow a visit to the Doge’s palace (about 30 minutes away) and free time…no trains or buses tomorrow!
