Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly recently voiced concerns over the current state of Pakistan cricket, emphasising the lack of talent compared to their earlier generations. His comments come after Pakistan’s shock 0-2 Test series loss to Bangladesh at home, marking their first defeat to the team in the format.
Pakistan has struggled over the past year across all formats, including early exits from the 2023 ODI and 2024 T20 World Cups, followed by a 0-3 Test series loss to Australia. Ganguly’s observations highlight a deeper problem in the team’s ability to produce world-class players in recent times.
Ganguly’s Observations on Talent Dearth in Pakistan
Speaking at a promotional event in Kolkata, Ganguly stated that there is a noticeable gap in Pakistan’s cricketing talent compared to legends like Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Younis Khan.
He believes that relying on past memories won’t help Pakistan win matches in the modern era.
This lack of emerging talent is now reflected in their recent poor performances, as they have slipped to eighth in the ICC Test Team Rankings.
Upcoming Challenges for Pakistan and India’s Strengths
Ganguly also congratulated Bangladesh for their historic victory against Pakistan but warned that facing India in the upcoming two-Test series would be a much tougher challenge.
He expressed confidence in India’s dominant form, whether at home or abroad, and predicted that India would win the series.
