Sourav Ganguly Takes Helm of Kolkata Royal Tigers Racing Team

The Indian Racing Festival, a premier motorsport event in India, is set for an exciting third season with the announcement that former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly will be the owner of the Kolkata Royal Tigers Racing team. This move marks a significant milestone for the festival, which features the Indian Racing League (IRL) and the Formula 4 Indian Championship (F4IC).

Created by Racing Promotions Pvt. Ltd. (RPPL), the Indian Racing Festival will run from August to November, featuring eight city-based teams: Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Kochi, and Ahmedabad. This year, Kolkata joins the fray as a new contender.

Akhilesh Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of RPPL, expressed enthusiasm about Ganguly’s involvement, saying, “We are thrilled to announce Sourav Ganguly as the owner of the Kolkata franchise. His visionary leadership and commitment to excellence, shaped by years of legendary cricketing success, brings unparalleled dynamism to the Indian Racing Festival. Ganguly, known as the ‘Prince of Calcutta’ and ‘Dada,’ shared his excitement about his new role, stating, “I am truly excited to embark on this journey with the Kolkata team in the Indian Racing Festival. Motorsports has always been a passion of mine, and this opportunity not only allows me to contribute to the growth of motorsport in Kolkata but also aligns with my belief in fostering a culture of excellence and sportsmanship.”

Ganguly’s involvement is expected to elevate the profile of the Indian Racing Festival, drawing attention to motorsport in eastern India and expanding the event’s reach. His established track record in sports management, demonstrated by his role with Indian Super League side ATK Mohun Bagan, suggests a promising future for the Kolkata Royal Tigers.
