South Africa announces 15-man squad for the WTC 2025 final against Australia

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced a 15-member squad for the highly anticipated ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final against Australia, scheduled to take place at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London from June 11 to 15. Temba Bavuma will continue to lead the Proteas in their pursuit of a maiden WTC title.

Lungi Ngidi makes comeback in a strong pace line-up

South Africa’s squad features a potent pace attack, headlined by Kagiso Rabada, Dane Paterson, and the returning Lungi Ngidi. Ngidi has been recalled to the Test setup after an absence of several months, having last played in the format in October 2024. Notably, speedsters Gerald Coetzee and Anrich Nortje have been left out of the final squad.

All-rounders Marco Jansen, Wiaan Mulder, and Corbin Bosch provide additional pace options, adding depth and variety to the seam department.

Keshav Maharaj, South Africa’s first-choice spinner in recent years, is joined by left-arm spinner Senuran Muthusamy as the side’s two main spin options. Dane Piedt, who featured in previous squads, has been omitted for the final.

Batting unit blends experience with youth

The Proteas’ batting order boasts a healthy mix of experience and emerging talent. Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton, and David Bedingham are among the top-order options, while the versatile Tristan Stubbs has also earned a spot. Wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne, who played a vital role in the team’s WTC campaign, retains his place and is expected to don the gloves.

Ahead of the final, the squad will assemble in Arundel on May 31 and participate in a four-day warm-up match against Zimbabwe from June 3 to 6. The team will then travel to London on June 7 to begin preparations for their title showdown against Pat Cummins’ Australia.
