The start of the home series against England helped South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt to reclaim the No. 1 position in the ICC Women’s ODI batting rankings. Unbeaten 59 in the first ODI and 35 in the second propelled her to the number one position, dislodging England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt to the third position, having received 0 and 20 in her first two games. Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu took up the second spot.
The emergence of Wolvaardt marks her first foray back to the summit since her standout performance during the 2022 World Cup. She has been crucial to establishing South Africa as a contender to the power that England are.
Chloe Tryon also made giant strides for South Africa by climbing eight places to reach joint-17th in the batting rankings. Her knock of 45 in the second ODI showcased her growing consistency. Among bowlers, South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp climbed to sixth place, remaining the No. 1-ranked allrounder.
Australia also led the rankings update after their dominating start to the ODI series against India. Ellyse Perry’s blazing 105 off 75 balls in Brisbane pushed her to fourth in the batters’ rankings while Megan Schutt moved to second among bowlers with six wickets in two matches.
Orla Prendergast, the Ireland all-rounder was the highlight in the T20I rankings, and her all-round brilliance for Ireland in their series sweep over Bangladesh has earned her a position in the top 10 all-rounders’ rankings, climbing to joint-ninth. She scored 54 runs and picked ten wickets, indicating that she has a very bright future in international cricket.
