David Puig delivered a flawless final round to win the BMW Australian PGA Championship at Royal Queensland, becoming the second Spaniard after Seve Ballesteros to claim the title.
Spanish star David Puig claimed his first DP World Tour title with a stunning victory at the BMW Australian PGA Championship at Royal Queensland Golf Club.
The 23-year-old LIV Golf player fired a bogey-free final-round 66 to finish at 18-under, two shots clear of China’s Wenyi Ding. Starting the day in a share of the lead, Puig surged ahead with three consecutive birdies on holes two, three and four, and never looked back.
Puig’s win is historic—he becomes just the second Spaniard to lift the Joe Kirkwood Cup, following in the footsteps of the legendary Seve Ballesteros, who triumphed in 1981.
“It feels unbelievable, especially winning here in Australia,” Puig said. “I was definitely nervous, but I think I kept my composure really well. That start helped a lot.”
“I’ve worked really hard for this moment, and to do it in front of such great crowds is something I’ll never forget.”
The final leaderboard featured plenty of drama, with Marc Leishman and Nick Voke sharing third at 15-under, while Min Woo Lee finished tied fifth.
For Puig, the victory caps a steady rise since turning professional in 2022 and joining LIV Golf. It also marks the opening event of the DP World Tour’s 2026 season.
