“Speedball” Mike Bailey is not afraid to think outside the box. The current champion says he would like to see a big change in AEW- intergender Trios Championships. Bailey believes the AEW World Trios Championship should be defended without gender restrictions.
The Trios Championship was introduced in 2022. Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks were the first champions. The titles aimed to highlight AEW’s faction-based stories and multi-person matches.
Currently, Jet Set Rodeo (Adam Page, Mike Bailey, and Kevin Knight) holds the titles. They took it off the hands of Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Katsuyori Shibata at Collision: Maximum Carnage in January 2026. It’s the first reign for all three men.
Speedball Mike Bailey Pitches Intergender Concept for AEW Trios Titles
Bailey, who is one-third of the current Trios Champions, shared his thoughts in a recent vlog with his Jet Set Rodeo teammates. The group won the titles earlier this year, but Bailey feels the division could grow even more.
When asked about intergender Trios champions, Bailey said he doesn’t see why the belts should have gender limits at all. To him, it doesn’t make sense, especially for Trios titles.
“They don’t have women’s Trios Championship yet. Can I still call it as the Trios championship? Intergender championship. I wish it was. It could be. Could be. I don’t know why Trios Championships of all championships should have any gender restrictions,” Bailey said.
The Trios Titles have already had some unique moments. In 2024, they were temporarily unified with Ring of Honor’s Six-Man Tag Team Titles.
Intergender wrestling is still debated in major promotions. Many independent companies do it regularly, but bigger TV promotions have been more careful. AEW has had some intergender moments and mixed tag matches, but its championships are still split between men’s and women’s divisions.
