Sports anchor Ridhima Pathak charged in case of cyber fraud

Ridhima Pathak, a well-known sports anchor, has been charged by the Cyber Police for allegedly defrauding an Australian company.

Ridhima and her brother Ishan Pathak, both directors of Pune-based Reswitch Technologies, have been accused of orchestrating a hack on the complainant company’s payment gateway following payment disputes. This hack reportedly resulted in unauthorized refunds to subscribers. Initial complaints to the Cyber Police were allegedly ignored until the Australian company approached the JMF court in Nagpur, which subsequently issued directives for FIR registration.

The advocates represented the complainant during the court proceedings. The charges against Ridhima and Ishan include violations under IPC sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), and 467 (forgery of valuable security), along with Section 67 of the IT Act. The financial impact of the alleged fraud is reported to be around A$ 15,000.
