Toronto Blue Jays sportscaster Jamie Campbell was in St. Thomas, Ont., to help a young Jays fan fulfil his final wish.

The Sportsnet broadcaster met with 17-year-old Weslee Johnson, who suffers from hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a condition that leaves the left ventricle severely underdeveloped. Weslee has battled heart complications for years and his time is limited now that he is fighting cancer.

Weslee has never let his illness get the best of him, always moving forward with his life. He graduated from Grade 12 with honours, earned his driver’s licence and, of course, always cheers on his beloved Blue Jays.
“I just tried to live life with no regrets,” Johnson told CTV in a recent interview.

Determined to make it to Dunedin
Johnson is bound and determined to make it to Dunedin, Fla. — the Blue Jays’ spring training home — one final time. But his parents have no steady income, having quit their jobs to remain with him full time in his last days. Campbell stepped in to draw attention to a fundraiser to send Johnson on his dream trip. As of late Monday night, the fundraiser had reached $34,225 on the way to its $40,000 target.
