Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant produced a composed knock to guide his side to a hard-fought victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the afternoon fixture at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, on Sunday.
LSG won the toss and opted to field first. SRH set a target of 156/9 for them to chase. With a composed innings from captain Pant, LSG chased it down with five wickets in hand and one ball remaining.
In LSG’s first match against Delhi Capitals, Pant was given the role of an opener. However, in the match against SRH, he came out to bat at number three.
LSG were 37/1 in the fifth over during the run chase of 157 when he walked in and assessed the situation quickly. The wicketkeeper-batter understood that the pitch was a little tricky and adopted a risk-free approach. He built a steady partnership of 40 runs with Aiden Markram before the team suffered a small collapse, leaving them at 105/4.
Showing maturity and awareness, Pant anchored the chase while rotating the strike efficiently, relying on flicks, dabs, and well-placed boundaries rather than big shots, finishing his innings without hitting a single six.
His score of 68 off 50 balls, at a strike rate of 136, included nine fours and was defined by his calmness under pressure. In the final over, with nine runs needed, Pant avoided unnecessary risks and remained composed even after two consecutive dot balls. He ultimately struck a boundary to help LSG come out on top.
