Oilers Now host Bob Stauffer asked Edmonton Oilers general manager Stan Bowman about the status of some key players who recently went down with injuries. Over the course of the past few weeks (and days), the Oilers have lost four important pieces.
Edmonton has been without Leon Draisaitl, but the team has gone 7-3-1 with him. Zach Hyman was then temporarily shut down due to a nagging issue that the Oilers wanted to allow some rest time for. Then on Wednesday, the Oilers lost both goaltender Connor Ingram and defensive forward Jason Dickinson during the game versus the San Jose Sharks.
Bowman offered an update on all four. He said:
“Yeah, the injuries last night—I don’t have an update today. I don’t think either one of them are serious; at least if they were, I think I probably would have heard that by now. So I think it’s probably more of a minor thing for both guys.”
That’s certainly good news on both, and potentially surprising news on Dickinson. Given how much he needed help off the ice, it looked bad.
What About Draisaitl and Hyman?
Bowman continued: “As far as Leon goes, I think we’ll get a better feel for where he’s at when he’s skating with our team, which hopefully will be when we get back to Edmonton over the next week. He’s progressing well. Like I said from the beginning, nothing has changed from our original prognosis. We expect him back at the beginning of the playoffs.”
When it comes to Hyman, the Oilers are just being cautious. “This is probably a little bit more of a maintenance issue, but it was something that was bothering him, and we felt we wanted to do what we could to give him the best chance of being as healthy as possible for the playoffs.” He added, “That was why he had to miss these games, but he’s ready to go, and I expect that…”
