Stephen Amell starred in the Starz wrestling drama series Heels during its two-season run.
According to Amell, he believes even if a third season happened, it would’ve been tough. Speaking during an appearance on Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, Amell opened up about the show. Following its cancellation in 2023, there were talks of a third season being picked up by another distributor. Amell, though, always thought all of that was complicated.
“With Heels, I always said to myself, ‘Yeah, it might get on Netflix, but even if it blew up, who even owns it?’ It’s one of those things,” Stephen Amell said.
Heels premiered in 2021, and the show followed the story of two brothers and rivals in the wrestling business, who play both a “heel” and a “face” in the industry. Alongside Amell, the series starred Alexander Ludwig, Alison Luff, and more. Several real-life wrestlers appeared in the series, including CM Punk.
Stephen Amell was more hurt by Suits LA getting cancelled than Heels
Stephen Amell was also asked whether he viewed the Heels cancellation or the cancellation of Suits LA as a bigger blow to him. He pointed to Suits LA as the bigger disappointment, calling it a “big opportunity” for him. However, he doesn’t completely blame himself for it.
“Really good friend of mine that I worked with for a couple of seasons of television, and he’s always got wonderful perspective for me,” Stephen Amell said. “I was given an amazing opportunity. I did the very, very best I could, there were a lot of things that were out of my control. So, do I bear a bit of the responsibility? I sure do, because I would also take the adulation if it had gone a different way. But I don’t think that there’s something intrinsically wrong with me. It just so happens that the first show that I did was a bit of a unicorn in the business.”
Stephen Amell is best known for his starring role in The CW series Arrow. He will next star in the upcoming Baywatch reboot.
