The bowl games on Saturday, Dec. 27 keep rolling on and at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla., one of the most controversial bowls of this bowl season, the Pop-Tarts Bowl, takes place with the No. 12 BYU Cougars battling the No. 22 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
The bowl game is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on ABC. This game was initially supposed to be a contest between BYU and Notre Dame, the first two teams to miss the cut fr the College Football Playoff. However, Notre Dame decided to decline the invitation, which opened the door for Georgia Tech to slide into this matchup after a very successful season that saw its own CFP chances fade away in the final weeks.
The Cougars and Yellow Jackets also feature two of the top running quarterbacks in the country in Bear Bachmeier and Haynes King. Both quarterbacks tossed for about 2,700 yards, with the freshman Bachmeier getting 14 passing touchdowns to go with 527 rushing yards and 11 ground scores, and the senior King tallying 12 touchdowns through the air to go with 922 rushing yards and 15 additional touchdowns with his legs.
The Cougars went 11-2 this season with both losses coming to No. 4 Texas Tech, including in the Big 12 Championship, which knocked BYU from CFP contention. The Yellow Jackets went 9-3, with all those losses coming in the team’s final four games, including losing their last two to close out the regular season.
