SONGKHLA, THAILAND — The AVC Beach Tour 25th Samila Open 2026 got off to an exciting start on April 12, as teams across the men’s and women’s divisions delivered strong performances in the opening day of main draw competition.
Early contenders quickly emerged in the men’s division, with Australia’s Hood/Hodges showcasing their form with a commanding straight-sets victory to lead Pool D. Indonesia’s Bintang/Sofyan also impressed, securing a solid opening win to top Pool E and energize their campaign.
Australia continued to demonstrate depth in the field, as Potts/Pearse opened their campaign with a dominant performance, underlining the nation’s strong presence in the tournament. Meanwhile, teams from China, Thailand, and Japan also registered convincing wins, setting up a competitive race heading into the next round of matches.
In the women’s division, New Zealand’s Polley/MacDonald delivered a confident start with a straight-sets victory, while Australia’s Rayner/Fejes battled through a tough three-set match to secure an important opening win. Japan’s Ren/Non and Kazakhstan’s Karimova/Ryukhova also made strong statements with dominant performances in their respective pools.
Philippines’ Progella/Pagara emerged as one of the standout performers of the day, recording an impressive win to lead Pool B and position themselves well heading into the next stage.
With multiple teams already finding early rhythm and several tightly contested matches unfolding, the opening day set the tone for an intense and highly competitive tournament as teams vie for crucial pool standings and progression to the knockout rounds.
Competition continues on April 13 with the second day of main draw matches, as teams look to build momentum and secure their spots in the next rounds.
