India’s national cricket team will play against Bangladesh in the 2nd T20I of the series of which this is the second and concluding match on Wednesday (October 9). This match will be held at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi and in this match, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav will have a chance to match and perhaps break Virat Kohli’s record of the fastest 2500 runs in T20 international making him become the second fastest player in the world to achieve that.
Surya took over the role of captain for T20I after Rohit in July 2024, and so far has managed to lead India to victories in nine out of 11 T20Is played. Should he win the second T20I, he will equal Hardik Pandya’s 10 wins as captain and become only the fourth Indian captain after Rohit Sharma (50), MS Dhoni (42) and Virat Kohli to register wins in the shortest format.
Kohli retired from T20Is on June 29, 2024, and solicited the 2500 in 79 matches thus played. On the other hand, Suryakumar has already played 72 T20Is he has 2461 T20I runs.
In the event, he scores 39 runs in the 2nd T20I, he will achieve the record set by Kohli. Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam holds the overall record of scoring 2500 runs in T20Is in the fastest time than anyone else. The right-handed batter who is 29 years old achieved that height in his 67th innings.
Fastest to 2500 runs in T20Is
Babar Azam (Pakistan) – 67
Virat Kohli (India) – 73
Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan) – 76
Aaron Finch (Australia) – 78
Martin Guptill (New Zealand) – 86.
Suryakumar, who made his T20I debut for India against England in March 2021, played the first match of the Bangladesh series in Gwalior on Sunday (October 6) and made 29 runs off 14 balls. He struck two fours and three sixes during his innings.
In the second match against Bangladesh, if Suryakumar manages to hit a minimum of six sixes during the course of the innings, he will surpass Nicholas Pooran of the West Indies cricketer and will occupy the 3rd position in the list of players who have hit the most sixes in T20I. Surya has hit 139 sixes in 73 T20Is on the other hand Pooran has 144 in 98 T20Is.
Rohit Sharma in T20I records in hitting the maximum. The captain of the Indian squad, who won the T20 World Cup in the year 2024, declared his career by playing 159 matches, in which he made 205 hits. Likewise, former New Zealand cricketer Martin Guptill has hit 173 sixes in 122 games to stand in the third spot.
