Surya Kumar Yadav to make a comeback in the Duleep Trophy: reports

Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of India’s T20I team, who was absent from the first two matches of Duleep Trophy 2024 owing to a thumb injury, has now completely healed and is ready to play for the Indian C team, which is being captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad in their last match. The top place holders will meet Mayank Agarwal’s India A team at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur beginning on Thursday (September 19).

Surya got hurt while representing Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament held in Coimbatore. He injured his right-hand thumb when he was fielding at leg-slip before he proceeded to NCA for rehabilitation program.

The addition of this 34-year-old right-handed batter will certainly add power to Ind A’s batting order, who won their first contest against Ind D by four wickets and managed to take leadership position during innings of second match versus Ind B.

As Suryakumar was on his road trip from Bengaluru to Anantapur by car he shared a photo with the caption: “Next stop: Anantapur” on Tuesday.

Suryakumar’s return is a blessing for Team India too as now he can play in the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. After the two-match Test series which begins in Chennai on Thursday (September 19), India will have three T20I matches with Bangladesh. The opening match of this series will be played in Gwalior on 6th October while the next two games will take place in Delhi and Hyderabad on October 9 and 12 respectively.

Apart from this Shubman Gill has been reportedly ruled out of the T20I series against Bangladesh.

“Yes Shubman will be rested for Bangladesh T20I series. If you see the schedule, three T20Is will happen on 6th October (Gwalior), 9th October (Delhi) and 12th October (Hyderabad) now first Test vs New Zealand starts from 16th October so giving him rest is important with turnaround time of three days,” quoted a BCCI source to PTI on Sunday.

Moreover besides Gill fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will also need to take rest according to workload management needs.
