Suryakumar Yadav honoured by Kieron Pollard on his 100th game for Mumbai Indians

Ahead of the clash against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the Mumbai Indians (MI) celebrated a significant milestone in their camp. Suryakumar Yadav was felicitated with a special jersey by MI legend Kieron Pollard for playing his 100th match for the franchise in the IPL.

Suryakumar, who debuted for MI back in 2012, became the eighth player to achieve this feat and joins an elite list of players. Pollard who is now a member of the MI support staff, presented Surya with a customized jersey celebrating the milestone.

The 34-year-old has been an important player in the franchise’s batting order since rejoining in 2018, and with over 3,000 runs to his name, he ranks third in MI’s all-time run-scorers list. He was also part of MI’s title-winning campaigns in 2019 and 2020. Surya is also one of only two players, alongside Rohit Sharma, to have scored multiple centuries and over 25 fifty-plus scores for the franchise.

Rohit Sharma misses out due to a knee injury

With Rohit sidelined due to a knee injury in the game against LSG, the visiting team entered this match without their star batter. Hardik Pandya called it correctly at the toss and opted to bowl first at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

Lucknow Super Giants got off to a brilliant start, thanks to a quick-fire innings from Mitchell Marsh. The all-rounder smashed 60 off just 31 balls, lacing his innings with nine boundaries and two sixes. The opening stand with Aiden Markram added 76 runs in under seven overs before Marsh was dismissed by young spinner Vignesh Puthur. After 10 overs, the scorecard read 100/2 with Aiden Markram and Rishabh Pant at the crease.
