Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav’s recovery is going well and he will definitely feature in India’s upcoming 3-match T20I series against Bangladesh set to begin next month.
“Surya’s recovery is going well. He is almost 100 per cent and he knows it,” said a BCCI source who met Surya on the sidelines of the Duleep Trophy match between India A and India B.
Suryakumar was supposed to play for India C in their Duleep Trophy opener against India D in Anantapur, however he got ruled out due to an injury. He was sent to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) so that he can make a steady recovery.
Suryakumar had injured his right thumb while fielding in a Buchi Babu tournament against TNCA XI on day 3 of the match. As a precautionary measure, he opted not to bat in the second innings.
“The BCCI Medical Team is continuing to assess his injury, and a further evaluation next week will determine his availability for the second round,” the BCCI said in an official press release on September 4.
As things stand now, Suryakumar will feature in the latter half of the Duleep Trophy, however it is still unclear whether he will return to the domestic tournament from the second round itself. Notably, BCCI hasn’t announced any replacement for him in the India C squad as they expect him to be available from the second round.
