It is expected that Suryakumar Yadav will reappear after a while as he captains the Indian team in the first T20I match against South Africa, the first encounter between the two sides since the enthralling final clash that saw them meet in the 2024 T20 World Cup this year. India has named a 15-man squad to be led by Suryakumar for the flying four-match series which is commencing in Durban.
The squad has three new names Yash Dayal, Vijaykumar Vyshak and Ramandeep Singh – all of who are making their T20I debut. While Dayal has earlier been part of an India Test squad, it is the first time either Vyshak or Ramandeep has been featured in the senior team.
The team, however, has found an interesting way in revealing the two new faces who are geared up to make their international debuts in the course of the series.
Surya evaluated the attributes of the two – Vyshak and Ramandeep – by divulging the ‘recipes’ of a good fast bowler and a hard-hitting batsman.
Surya has mentioned that he is also copying Rohit Sharma’s behaviour of taking care of players as former captain of the team as T20I as he realizes that such acts are useful.
“I know how he (Rohit Sharma) treats the players, what he wants from them. So that route I have also taken because he’s been very successful recently,” Suryakumar said.
“Being an athlete, I have always been observant. I remember during one of the matches, how is his body language, how cool he is in all the pressure situations, how he deals with the bowlers, how he is with everyone inside and outside the ground. Above all, a leader is always expected to have a certain amount of time spent on them to create that warmth in the relationship, I aim to do the same. Outside the playing field, I make an effort to interact with my colleagues, share meals, and go on trips. Those are the minor details that matter in the playing arena,” he further said.
The second T20 International match will take place in Gqeberha while the third and fourth T20Is will be staged in Centurion and Johannesburg … respectively.
