India’s new-look T20I side, featuring rising stars Abhishek Sharma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Rinku Singh, delivered a spectacular performance to secure a dominant 100-run victory over Zimbabwe in the second match of the series at Harare Sports Club. This emphatic win came after a disappointing loss in the series opener, alleviating concerns about the team’s ability to find suitable replacements for the recently retired Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
The match began on a shaky note for India, with captain Shubman Gill being dismissed in the second over. However, Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad swiftly turned the game around. Abhishek, who had a slow start in the first game, exploded with a 46-ball century, smashing seven boundaries and eight sixes. Gaikwad, the captain of Chennai Super Kings, played a crucial role as well, scoring a solid 77 off 77 balls, featuring 11 boundaries and a six. Their 137-run partnership in just 46 balls set a solid foundation for India’s innings.
Rinku Singh, who was part of the reserves in the T20 World Cup squad, added a fiery finish to the innings. He scored an unbeaten 48 off just 22 balls, helping India post a formidable total of 234 for two in their 20 overs.
On the bowling front, Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan each took three wickets, while Ravi Bishnoi contributed with two wickets, as they bundled out Zimbabwe for just 134 runs in 18.4 overs. Wessly Madhevere and Luke Jongwe were the top scorers for Zimbabwe, with 43 and 33 runs respectively.
Suryakumar Yadav, impressed by the performances of Abhishek, Ruturaj, and Rinku, took to social media to commend their explosive batting displays, further igniting the excitement among fans.
India will aim to continue their winning momentum in the third T20I, scheduled to be played at the same venue on Wednesday. The final two matches of the series are set for Saturday and Sunday, offering ample opportunity for the young squad to showcase their talent and secure the series victory.
