Suryakumar Yadav’s One Mistake Nearly Caused India their 3rd T20I against Sri Lanka

A big mistake from India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav almost costed the team the whole match as he almost threw the match against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. Sri Lanka were chasing their target of 138 runs, but their poor show of play in batting by the end of the match saw India make a fantastic comeback in Pallekele. The Island Nation needed 5 runs in the final 2 ball to win the game. This is when Chamindu Wickramsinghe shot Suryakumar’s full delivery towards long-off in an attempt to steal a couple runs.

The throw from long-off came at non-striker’s end where Asitha Fernando might have been caught short of his crease by a big gap but Surya made a big mistake. The Indian captain got the ball in time, but instead of hitting the stumps at the non-striker’s end, he instead threw it straight to wicketkeeper Sanju Samson at the complete other end. As a result, Sri Lanka batters manage to save their wickets and get their double runs.

The run-out that the team missed on, played a big role in helping Sri Lanka in taking the game to the Super Over. However, India easily went past Sri Lanka with a dominating score.

“More than the last over, I feel when we were around 30/4 and 48/5, how the boys showed character in the middle and took the game away from them … I felt 140 was a par score on that track. When we were going in during fielding session I told them, ‘I have seen such kind of games. If we put our heart in for one and a half hours, we can pull it off’,” said Surya after the game.

“If you are enjoying hitting 200-220s and winning games, you should enjoy 30/4 and 70/5 as well because that creates balance in your life and that’s how you move on and just be humble,” he added.
