Leafs injury news: Tanev, Joshua out indefinitely, Matthews, Nylander’s status vs. Jets to be determined
Tanev did not play in Tuesday’s game against the New Jersey Devils. The 36-year-old previously missed 23 games due to an upper-body injury sustained November 1 against the Philadelphia Flyers.
It’s a tough loss for the Maple Leafs, who are also without Brandon Carlo, as he works his way back into form after undergoing foot surgery on December 3. Carlo is skating with the team, and appears to be progressing well.
Berube also provided some brief updates on Auston Matthews and William Nylander, as the Maple Leafs prepare for Thursday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets. Matthews skated at Wednesday’s optional practice, after being ruled out prior to warmups for Tuesday’s game due to a lower-body injury.
“He had a good day today. Tomorrow, see how it feels in the morning. He’ll probably go on the ice and and we’ll go from there,” Berube said.
Berube said Nylander’s status would be determined Thursday, based upon how he performs at the morning skate. Nylander missed Tuesday’s game due to a lower-body injury.
