Taskin Ahmed, seasoned fast bowler for the Bangladesh cricket team, reportedly missed a match in the T20 World Cup 2024 against India because he overslept. The report says that the team couldn’t reach Taskin because he was asleep in his room, and this caused him to miss the bus that took the team to the game. An official from the team had to stay behind at the hotel because they couldn’t get in touch with Taskin, and he arrived late at the stadium. Taskin has said sorry to his teammates for missing the bus, and the coach chose not to let him play in the game against India.
Fans and experts were surprised when Bangladesh left Taskin out of their starting lineup and chose Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mustafizur Rahman as their only two fast bowlers.
“Taskin did join the team after missing the initial group,” an official said to Cricbuzz.
“Only the coach can explain why Taskin didn’t play, because whether he was part of the plan for the match against India can only be answered by the head coach (Chandika Hathurusingha),” he added.
“If there was a problem between the coach and the player about how he played the next game against Afghanistan,” he mentioned. “He said sorry to his teammates and everyone for oversleeping, and that’s all. There’s no need to make a big deal out of it,” he continued.
Bangladesh’s head coach, Chandika Hathurusingha, hasn’t said anything about this situation.
India easily beat Bangladesh by 50 runs. The Indian players were doing really well, with Hardik Pandya (50), Rohit Sharma (23), Virat Kohli (37), Rishabh Pant (36), and Shivam Dube (34) all scoring runs to help their team win a crucial game in the T20 World Cup 2024.
