Bangladeshi pacer Taskin Ahmed acknowledged on Friday that his team’s performance in the first Test match against India has been hindered by losing too many wickets in the first ten overs of their first innings against “world class” Indian spinners.
Bangladesh were all out for 149 in 47.1 overs on the second day, with Shakib Al Hasan (32) being their highest scorer, in response to India’s first innings total of 376. In the first ten overs, they scored 27 runs and lost three wickets.
“All in all, our hitting was a touch underwhelming. Yes, the fast bowlers had some assistance, but even so, we were able to do significantly better. Therefore, Ahmed stated at the news conference following the day’s play.
“We also lost too many wickets in the first 10 (overs), which cost us our game.”
At the end of their second innings, India had an overall advantage of 308 runs at 81 for 3.
In the first innings, Ahmed claimed three wickets for India and one in the second. He believed that his team’s lack of expertise with the SG balls did not aid their case either.
Players from Bangladesh are primarily accustomed to using Kookaburra balls, which have a flatter seam than SG balls.
“Playing with the SG ball is difficult as well. The 29-year-old right-arm pacer stated, “The Indians have a significant edge since they have used the SG ball since they were little.
“We also committed a few errors with the new ball. Regarding the SG ball and this circumstances, I thought there were some difficulties, particularly in the first 10 to 12 overs.
“India has a strong team that can defeat any domestic foe. And much as we will when we play at home soon, everyone seeks to take advantage of the home advantage.”
He reported that his team bowled reasonably well overall.
“Yes, yesterday we got off to a good start, and in the end, both Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja did a good job at batting. We also had a solid session this morning, and after collecting four more wickets, we managed to complete them all in 37 runs.
In summary, we bowled really well. There was more assistance yesterday than today.”
Ahmed praised the Indian bowlers for their regular length and line.
Indeed, they are all of the highest caliber. The Indian bowling assault had a lot of variances, but they were more consistent in their line and lengths,” he remarked.
“We played overall good cricket in Pakistan,” Ahmed stated after their historic victory in the Test series. “To succeed in Test cricket, you have to be good in every department every session.”
“But, conditions are different here.”
Ahmed stated that his team is continuously developing.
“Everyone (in the team) is concerned about it and is working on it. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, but there is no limit to getting better.
“While we are trying to improve on it by giving our utmost, at the end of the day, it all boils down to how we execute our plans,” he signed off.
