The whole city of Mumbai was brightly lit as people celebrated India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit Sharma and his team were honored at the Wankhede Stadium and had a victory parade starting from Marine Drive. Many fans came out to join in the festivities, marking India’s big win in an ICC tournament after 11 years. Before arriving in Mumbai, the Indian team landed in Delhi from Barbados on Thursday morning and met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his home.
Prime Minister Modi invited the winning team for breakfast and had a great conversation with all the players and the coaching staff.
In an article from the Indian Express, it was mentioned that Prime Minister Modi inquired about the taste of mud from Rohit Sharma. This query was linked to the special way Rohit celebrated India’s win in the championship game in Barbados. To mark the victory, Rohit had eaten a handful of sand from the Barbados field.
Afterwards, the Prime Minister also had a conversation with Virat Kohli, the top batsman, and asked him about his mental preparation before the final game against South Africa. Virat’s performance with the bat throughout the tournament was not very impressive. But, he scored an excellent 76 runs in the final match and was awarded the Player of the Match .
Prime Minister Modi inquired about Axar’s feelings when he had to bat higher in the lineup during a very important game. He also talked to Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Bumrah, asking them about their thoughts during the final four overs when South Africa was trying to chase a target.
At the celebration event at the Wankhede Stadium, team captain Rohit thanked the people of Mumbai and all cricket supporters for their continuous backing.
