India is scheduled to participate in a two-day practice match against the Prime Minister’s XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra from November 30 to December 1 as part of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This match is organized to help India get ready for the Day-Night Test against Australia, which will take place from December 6 at the Adelaide Oval.
So far, India has played three Day-Night Tests with the pink ball, against Bangladesh (2019), England (2021), and Sri Lanka (2022), winning all of them. However, they have not yet played a Day-Night Test outside of their home country, and the upcoming Adelaide Test will be their first one abroad.
India will play against the Prime Minister’s XI for the fourth time, and it’s the first time in 20 years. Steve Waugh was the captain of the PM XI, which had Andrew McDonald, the current national coach, in the team. They played against an Indian team led by Rahul Dravid.
Nick Hockley, the Cricket Australia CEO, said they are happy to announce that India will be part of this year’s Prime Minister’s XI match. This match is important on the cricket schedule, he added.
“The upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy Series is set to excite cricket fans everywhere. Today’s announcement of the Prime Minister’s XI match is great news for cricket enthusiasts, especially those in the Australian Capital Territory and nearby areas, and it adds to a fantastic cricket season.”
George Bailey, who leads the Cricket Australia selection committee, stated, “Being chosen for the Prime Minister’s XI is a significant honor for any player, considering its long history of over eight decades. This year’s match offers players a chance to stand out against what is likely the best team in the world.
India is set to play against Australia in the first Test, beginning on November 22 at the Perth Stadium. The third, fourth, and fifth Tests will take place in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney, respectively. India has recently won two consecutive Test series in Australia.”
