After 17 exciting matches, the World Championship of Legends is now at its last stage, and on Saturday (July 13), the Indian Champions will face the Pakistan Champions in the big game. The final match will take place at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
The Pakistan team was the first to reach the final match. They beat the West Indies team to secure their place in the big game. The West Indies captain, Daren Sammy, won the chance to choose first and decided to have Pakistan bat first.
Sammy’s choice looked good when his bowlers quickly made Pakistan lose three wickets for just 10 runs in the first two overs. But a partnership of 79 runs between the wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal and captain Younis Khan helped Pakistan get back in the game.
Kamran missed getting 50 runs by just 4 runs, but he managed to hit eight boundaries from 31 balls. Younis continued playing and scored 65 runs from 45 balls, hitting six fours and one six, preventing the West Indians from completely stopping the flow of runs.
The team led by Sammy managed to dismiss Shahid Afridi and Misbah-ul-Haq early, but Aamer Yamin (40 runs not out from 18 balls) and Sohail Tanvir (33 runs from 17 balls) helped Pakistan reach a total of 198 runs. In response, the West Indies team had a tough time from the first ball, struggling to maintain the needed run rate.
Barrin Rayad Emrit, and no other player could break free, which led to West Indies losing by 20 runs. Sohail Khan was the best bowler for Pakistan, taking four wickets while only giving up 21 runs in four overs.
For India, it was again Yuvraj Singh’s performance (59 runs off 28 balls) that helped them reach the final match. The left-handed batter showed his old skills and frustrated the Australian bowlers. Robin Uthappa (65 runs off 35 balls), Irfan Pathan (50 runs off 19 balls), and Yusuf Pathan (51 runs not out of 23 balls) also played strong innings, helping India set a challenging total of 254 runs.
The Australia Champions team couldn’t reach their goal and ended up 86 runs behind. Tim Paine (40 not out of 32 balls) and Nathan Coulter-Nile (30 from 13 balls) scored the most runs for Australia, but their efforts weren’t enough to avoid defeat.
