The Indian cricket team put on a black armband on the second day of the fourth Test against Australia in memory of former prime minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away recently in New Delhi. A two-time former prime minister from 2004 to 2014, Singh died on Thursday in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after he fainted at his home due to ailments caused by advancing age. He was 92.
“The Indian team moves with black arm bands in the memory of former PM Dr Manmohan Singh who has passed away,” said BCCI in a statement.
Singh was also a world-famous economist. He was the architect and mastermind behind the economic reforms in 1991 that saved India from near bankruptcy and ushered in an era of liberalisation in the economy that many believe has changed the history of India. Australia resumed day 2 in the Melbourne Cricket Ground with 311 runs at a cost of 6 wickets.
