Tendulkar Hails Maharashtra’s Statue Tribute to Coach Achrekar

Indian cricket has been blessed to have Sachin Tendulkar. But the man behind Sachin Tendulkar was coach Ramakant Achrekar. To honor this great coach, Mumbai State Government has taken a heartwarming initiative. They are going to install Ramakant Achrekar’s statue at Shivaji Park. Sachin Tendulkar expressed gratitude to the Maharashtra government for their decision. 

Mumbai State Government to Build Achrekar’s Statue:

The late Ramakant Achrekar, renowned for coaching Sachin Tendulkar’s coach, had a deep connection with Shivaji Park, Mumbai. It was at this park where Achrekar gifted some legendary cricketers. In Mumbai cricket, Ramakant Achrekar’s contribution is unforgettable.

Ramakant Achrekar passed away on January 2, 2019, at the age of 87. He coached 14 players who represented India, including Sachin Tendulkar, Ramnath Parkar, Eknath Solkar, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Lalchand Rajput, Chandrakant Pandit, Pravin Amre, Vinod Kambli, Sameer Dighe, Sanjay Bangar, Paras Mhambrey, Ramesh Powar, Ajit Agarkar, and Sairaj Bahutule.

In honor of Achrekar’s contributions, the Maharashtra government has approved a memorial. The Urban Development Department recently greenlit a proposal to erect a six-foot statue of Achrekar near Gate No. 5 of Shivaji Park. This decision follows a recommendation from a committee led by the Mumbai Guardian Minister.

Sachin Tendulkar Lauded the Decision:

Ramakant Achrekar had a significant impact on Sachin Tendulkar’s career. From Joining a summer camp under him to becoming a cricket legend, Achrekar sir played a big role in Tendulkar’s career. Sachin Tendulkar expressed gratitude to the Maharashtra government for deciding to build a statue of Achrekar in Shivaji Park, Mumbai.

On his social media handle, Tendulkar said, “Achrekar Sir has had an immense impact on my life and several other lives. I am speaking on behalf of all his students. His life revolved around cricket in Shivaji Park. Being at Shivaji Park forever is what he would have wished for.”

Later he added, “I am very happy with the government’s decision to build a statue for Achrekar Sir at his karmabhoomi.”
