Boxing legend Terence Crawford remains against Mike Tyson resuming his boxing career after watching his fight with Jake Paul.
59-year-old Mike Tyson made his professional boxing return last year against polarizing star Jake Paul, dropping the fight by unanimous decision. It marked Tyson’s first professional bout in nearly 20 years and was one of the widest age discrepancies between boxers in the sport’s history.
Since Paul’s win over Tyson, many have questioned the integrity of the bout, calling the fight ‘scripted’ due to Paul slowing down his activity in the later rounds. Several conspiracy theories surrounding the fight made the rounds on social media after Paul’s victory.
Despite being months away from turning 60-years-old, Tyson is plotting a return to boxing later this year against fellow legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. But ahead of Tyson’s latest comeback chapter, Terence Crawford publicly questioned Tyson’s bout with Paul and the need for the heavyweight legend to continue fighting.
Terence Crawford: Mike Tyson fighting in his late 50s ‘heartbreaking’
In a recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, Crawford didn’t hold back in his assessment of Tyson’s return to the ring.
“I think it was scripted,” Crawford said of Paul vs. Tyson.
“I ain’t never seen Tyson biting his gloves and — it was taking all that he could not to hit him, [miming frustration]. It was just like, it’s heartbreaking to see an icon go out like that.
“He shouldn’t have been in there. At all,” Crawford continued. “I think there’s other ways. I think, with all his connections and things like that, I think people could have put him in the right position to make some money.” (h/t MMA Fighting)
Crawford announced his professional boxing retirement in December, just weeks after a stunning win over Canelo Alvarez. Meanwhile, Paul is on the sidelines as he continues to recover from a broken jaw suffered in his fight against Anthony Joshua.
