Terriers host BC; “Filthy” ERod; Women advance

Terriers begin their final home-and-home of the season, hosting #10/11 BC on Senior Night at Agganis Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET for the contest that will air on NESN and be live-streamed on ESPN+.

Owen McLaughlin, who transferred to BU from North Dakota, is the Terriers sole senior and will be recognized pre-game.

The Terriers dropped the two earlier games with BC, 4-1 at Agganis and 6-2 in the Beanpot championship game. The Eagles are on a three-game winning streak following a sweep of UConn.

BU is coming off the bye week and last played two weeks ago on Feb. 14, a 5-3 win against New Hampshire.

Coach Jay Pandolfo, in his weekly media call, reported that the team has held 10 practices since the UNH game and explained that “we’ve had a lot
of time to work on things.” Those on-ice sessions have been complemented by film
study.

“We’re trying to show the stuff that works,” he said. “What our
structure looks like when we do it right. There’s still some teaching moments
that are going to be shown, but we’re trying to show the stuff that
works.”

Olympic Men’s Hockey became part of the teaching moments as well.

“We definitely showed clips from the Olympics,” Pandolfo added. “Just
some of the ways teams have success and what they do and how they play. We
didn’t get together at 8am (for the Gold Medal Game), at least I didn’t, but
our guys definitely were paying close attention.”

Pandolfo explained that during the first week without games, there was added emphasis on the power play which has struggled throughout most of the season.

Addressing the two losses to BC, he pointed out “Both first
periods, in both those games, were really good for us. It’s just the
consistency in our game. Making sure you know who you’re on the ice against;
their top players have hurt us.”

Jonathan Morello - Men's Ice Hockey ...

The Boston Hockey Blog turns the spotlight on freshman Jonathan Morello. The Bruins 2024 draft pick, who originally was committed to Clarkson, has become one of the most productive and reliable first-year skaters for Coach Pandolfo.

For McAvoy, who donned a Mike Eruzione jersey during the Team USA’s
celebrations at a club in Miami after winning goal, the hope is that the
gold medal win — the first since the “Miracle on Ice” Eruzione and his
teammates authored in 1980 — pushes the USA Hockey program ever
higher, especially with the U.S. winning both hockey golds in Milan, on
both the men’s and women’s sides.

“Well, it’s clearly fake, because it’s not my voice, not my lips
moving,” Tkachuk said Thursday in his first media availability in Ottawa
since the U.S. defeated Canada for the gold medal in men’s Olympic ice
hockey in Milan. “I’m not in control of any of those accounts. I know
that those words would never come out of my mouth. So, I can’t do
anything about it.”

Women’s Team

Sydney Healy‘s short-handed goal in the opening minute of the second period proved the game-winner as the Terriers blanked Providence, 3-0, in the opening round of the Hockey East playoffs.

Healy and Lilli Welcke added empty-net goals, while Mari Pietersen turned aside all 20 Friars’ shots.

BU will now face top-seed Northeastern in the quarterfinals on Saturday at Walter Brown Arena in what will be a Huskies home game.
