RunBlogRun & Brooks presents
The Brooks Run Guide Interviews,
Julian Florez,
Assistant Coach,
Brooks Beasts Track Club,
Episode 9
I met Julian Florez about a year ago at the US Indoor, with Danny Mackey and Julian observing and helping the Brooks Beasts do their final preparations for the US Indoors. In speaking with several of the Beasts, the athletes all spoke about their enjoyment and enthusiasm of working with Julian.
So, RunBlogRun was fortunate enough to speak with Julian just a couple of weeks ago. My thoughts? One of the most positive people that this writer has ever met. Julian Florez is doing exactly what he wants to do: coach track & field athletes.
This interview went from Julian’s beginnings in the sport, and the influences of his wonderful high school coach and college coaches. Julian Florez is very big on creating a culture for the athletes to succeed, from things such as easy days, and hydration, to the hard days that must be run sparingly.
We thank Julian for his time. Also, congrats are due to Julian Florez, who won the Duke City Marathon on October 19, 2025 (2:31:51) in his personal running.
For coaches and athletes, this interview, like the other episodes Brooks Run Guide Interview series, are to provide you actual action points to be a better coach and better runner!
