With his win of the Red Bull Hardline in Tasmania this past weekend, Asa Vermette is looking like one of the top prospects for major success on the World Cup circuit this year.

 Asa Vermette

Out of curiosity, we checked the UCI Men’s Downhill rankings today to see where Asa Vermette stands in the current points rankings. Here’s what we found on the UCI’s website:

Canada’s Jackson Goldstone is currently the top ranked rider in the UCI points standings.

Luca Shaw is the top American, in third place.

Ryan Pinkerton is the next American, in tenth place.

After that, we have to jump down almost 20 places to find the next Americans, Dylan Maples in 28th place and Dakotah Norton in 29th place.

We finally found Asa Vermette’s name in 31st place.

The Red Bull Hardline is not a UCI sanctioned event, so Asa wouldn’t have earned any UCI points from his win in Tasmania.

We do expect that Asa Vermette will be one of the top riders in the UCI in the year ahead, though. We expect he’ll be battling for the wins on the World Cup circuit in the months ahead, and we expect that he’ll be heading towards the top of the UCI rankings before the year is over. Will he take the World Cup title or the World Championship this year? We’ll have to wait and see.
