Shaquille O’Neal is widely known for his phenomenal basketball career in the NBA.
The Hall of Famer spent 19 years in the league and walked away with four NBA Championships, among other accolades to his name.
While Shaquille O’Neal was one of the most dominant players of all time, there was another side to the Los Angeles Lakers legend.
What was Magic Johnson’s biggest mistake as LA Lakers president?
Despite being 7’1″ and 325 lbs, Shaq always loved to play jokes on his teammates, and former NBA star Gary Payton once talked about the same.
Shaquille O’Neal used to dump waste on his teammates

While Payton spent the majority of his career with the Seattle SuperSonics, GP joined the Lakers for the 2003-04 NBA season.
During his sole year in LA, Payton learned about some unexpected pranks that the Big Aristotle pulled off on his teammates.
“Shaq is a jokester. If one of the rookies was in a stall, he would take a bucket and use the bathroom in it for about a week. Then all of a sudden he’d pour it on them,” Payton told DJ Vlad in 2022.
Talk about disgusting, but that was O’Neal’s version of pranks on his Lakers teammates. Keeping that in mind, Payton once tried to give Shaq a taste of his own medicine.
“We started being jokers. So I said, I got to get him. I got his shorts once, which he had to wear underneath his thing,” the Glove revealed. “But we messed up his pants, so he had no drawers and he had to find them.”
Gary Payton’s prank had no impact on Shaquille O’Neal
One would assume Payton’s prank would put O’Neal in an uncomfortable situation, but the 4x NBA champ proved the Glove wrong.
“He had to wear a towel around him and Shaq didn’t care. He’d go outside with the towel on and was doing all kinds of everything,” Payton continued.

GP concluded, stating: “He’d get in the truck, ride around it and even throw his towel around, and he’d be freeballing.”
It shows why O’Neal was such a notorious prankster, as he rendered his teammates’ jokes on him useless.
