With the Alumax II, an aluminum gravel bike, welded in Vermont by Frank the Welder, Ron’s Bikes looked to improve upon its tire clearance…

Patrick’s Alumax I shot at the LA Invitational. Imagine how it’d look with 2.25″ tires!
The AluMax II is Ron’s built-for-speed, modern gravity-racing bike interpretation. Everything in the Alumax II is made in New England from 100% metal Italian materials. The direct-mount center-pull brakes on the first-gen Alumax looked sleek, but they limited tire clearance. For the Mark II design, Ron’s Bikes is speccing it with cantilever studs, allowing for either v-brakes or cantilevers. Or a combination of the two. In doing so, this allows for 55 mm in tire clearance.
