The Sandman is shutting down confusion about his WWE status — and the update flips the narrative around his recent appearances in WWE-related content.
Despite being featured in WWE 2K video games, many assumed the ECW icon had quietly signed a Legends deal with WWE. But speaking on BTA Philly on March 25, 2026, Sandman made it clear that’s not the case at all.
After being asked whether his involvement in the games came through a legacy-style agreement, Sandman revealed the truth — and even admitted he only recently learned the details himself.
“No, I just found this out. Somebody told me — I think Brian Myers — that I had a Legends deal, but I don’t. I actually have a likeness contract with them. So I don’t have a Legends deal, I’ve got something else.”
That clarification lines up with what Sandman has been saying for a while now. During a previous appearance on the Major Wrestling Figure Podcast, he made it clear he’s never been sold on WWE’s Legends contracts — even when approached directly. When asked point-blank if he had signed one, Sandman didn’t hesitate: “No, I don’t. No, they asked. I was like, ‘no legends deal’.”
And his reasoning goes deeper than just turning down an offer — it’s based on what he’s heard from others in the business over the years: “Well, because nobody ever said a good thing about a legends deal. I never heard one person say a good thing about them signing a nostalgia agreement.”
WWE Legends deals are typically used to lock in merchandising rights, secure appearances, and bring back veteran names for nostalgia-driven content — including video games like WWE 2K.
But Sandman’s situation shows there are other ways for the company to use a wrestler’s likeness without locking them into a full Legends contract. For now, Sandman is staying on his own terms — even if that means passing on a deal that many former stars accept.
What do you think about Sandman choosing a likeness deal over a WWE Legends contract? Would you take the deal, or stay independent? Drop your thoughts and feedback below.
