Some hints from the Minnesota Vikings’ leaders suggest that the 2025 depth chart will largely stay intact next season, so it’s time to look at the current lay of the land. Minnesota can’t be big spenders, as the salary cap just won’t afford it this go-round. Therefore, here’s a glance at the current roster.
Minnesota’s current roster offers a useful snapshot before the next wave of moves begins.
This will change pretty intensely during and after the draft because the Vikings love undrafted free agency, but regular free agency might feel blander than usual next week.
Several Position Groups Still Look Fragile for Minnesota
The Vikings’ depth chart from a pre-free agency perspective.
— Offensive Roster —
Quarterback
QB1: J.J. McCarthy
QB2: Max Brosmer
Free Agents: Carson Wentz | John Wolford | Brett Rypien
Minnesota will be adding another quarterback rather soon — probably Kyler Murray, Geno Smith, or Kirk Cousins.
Running Back
RB1: Jordan Mason
RB2: Zavier Scott (ERFA)
Free Agents: Aaron Jones | Ty Chandler
Minnesota needs an RB1 from free agency, like Travis Etienne, or it can draft one for the first time since the Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison era.
Fullback
FB1: None
Free Agents: n/a
C.J. Ham retired; perhaps Minnesota will sign Alec Ingold, whom the Miami Dolphins cut on Friday.
Wide Receiver
WR1: Justin Jefferson
WR2: Jordan Addison
WR3: Tai Felton
WR4: Myles Price
WR5: Jeshaun Jones
WR6: Dontae Fleming
WR7: Joaquin Davis
Free Agents: Jalen Nailor
Nailor is the Vikings’ main free-agent mystery. Will he stay, or will he go? NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal on Nailor: “Nailor was stuck behind Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison and didn’t have a quarterback who could throw to the middle of the field in his contract year. He has fans as a speedy slot receiver.”
Tight End
TE1: T.J. Hockenson
TE2: Josh Oliver
TE3: Ben Yurosek
TE4: Gavin Bartholomew
TE5: Bryson Nesbit
Free Agents: Ben Sims
Expect Hockenson to stick around, probably on a new contract paying less.
Left Tackle
LT1: Christian Darrisaw
LT2: Walter Rouse
Free Agents: Justin Skule
Right Tackle
RT1: Brian O’Neill
RT2: Caleb Etienne
Free Agents: Matt Nelson
Center
C1: Michael Jurgens
C2: Zekc Correll
Free Agents: n/a
Ryan Kelly retired on Friday afternoon; Minnesota needs a center.
Left Guard
LG1: Donovan Jackson
LG2: Blake Brandel
LG3: Henry Byrd
Free Agents: n/a
Right Guard
RG1: Will Fries
RG2: Joe Huber
RG3: Vershon Lee

— Defensive Roster —

OLB2: Andrew Van Ginkel
OLB3: Dallas Turner
OLB4: Bo Richter (ERFA)
OLB5: Tyler Batty
OLB6: Chaz Chambliss

This is the deepest spot on the roster.
Defensive End
DE1: Jalen Redmond
DE2: Tyrion Ingram-Dawnkins
DE3: Elijah Williams
DE4: Jaylon Hutchings
*Please Note: Most NFL terminology considers this spot “defensive tackle.”
Free Agents: Jonathan Allen | Javon Hargrave
Huge swings and misses on Allen and Hargrave could send Minnesota to the draft for a man like Caleb Banks (Florida) or Peter Woods (Clemson).
Nose Tackle
NT1: Levi Drake Rodriguez
NT2: Taki Taimani
Free Agents: n/a
Middle Linebacker
MLB1: Jacob Roberts
MLB2: Josh Ross
Free Agents: Ivan Pace Jr. | Eric Wilson
Weakside Linebacker
WLB1: Blake Cashman
Free Agents: n/a
Cornerback
CB1: Byron Murphy Jr.
CB2: Isaiah Rodgers
CB3: Dwight McGlothern
CB4: Zemaiah Vaughn
Free Agents: Jeff Okudah | Fabian Moreau
A to Z Sports‘ Tyler Forness recommended this week that the Vikings sign free agent Eric Stokes: “Cornerback needs at least one or two players added to the room, and one of them should be a veteran. Stokes was a player I thought they should target last offseason due to being a former first-round pick and having a good athletic profile. He signed with the Las Vegas Raiders, and finally had a breakout season.”
“He allowed just 28 catches for 261 yards and one touchdown after being consistently picked on during his time with the Green Bay Packers. Get him in Flores’ system, and he can be a long-term asset on defense. Projected contract: 2 years, $12 million”
Safety
S1: Josh Metellus
S2: Jay Ward
S3: Theo Jackson
S4: Kahlef Hailassie
Free Agents: Harrison Smith | Tavierre Thomas
The Athletic‘s Dane Brugler recently mock-drafted Oregon’s Dillon Thieneman to Minnesota after Thieneman’s fabulous combine showing.
He explained, “With Harrison Smith’s future in question, the Vikings will have safety near the top of their wish list this offseason. Thieneman was expected to test well at the combine. Based on the reactions from teams, he surpassed even those high expectations and solidified himself in the mid-first-round range. (NFL scout: “It’s hard to find anything bad with ‘T-man.’”).
— Special Teams Roster —
Kicker
K1: Will Reichard
Free Agents: n/a
Punter
P1: None
Free Agents: Ryan Wright
Long Snapper
LS1: None
Free Agents: Andrew DePaola
Kick Returner
KR1: Myles Price
Punt Returner
PR1: Myles Price
The Vikings are the odds-on favorites to sign Kyler Murray next week.
