Nick Kyrgios is nothing if not outspoken about what he dislikes when it comes to the ATP Tour.
Kyrgios will return to the 2026 Brisbane International, which will act as his first slice of competitive tennis since the Miami Open in 2024.
The Australian only played four tournaments in 2025, which resulted in just one victory, but he did fill out his year with exhibition matches.
The star recently played the World Tennis League in India and he’s set for a controversial ‘Battle of the Sexes’ bout with Aryna Sabalenka on 28 December in Dubai.
Back in 2022, Kyrgios called out Wimbledon for a rule that he really didn’t like while he was playing doubles with Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Nick Kyrgios hated best-of-five sets in doubles
Kyrgios and Kokkinakis won the 2022 Australian Open in doubles and they were set to continue as a team at Wimbledon.
Ahead of the tournament, Kyrgios questioned why doubles matches were still best-of-five sets at the Grand Slam.
What would be a successful season for Nick Kyrgios in 2026?
He said: “To be honest, I’m not really looking forward to playing best‑of‑five‑sets doubles. I think it’s the stupidest thing ever, to be brutally honest. I don’t know why it’s best of five sets.
“No one wants to play best-of-five-sets doubles. No one wants to watch best-of-five-sets doubles. I’m excited, but I’m also dreading the fact that, if it’s one set all, I’m going to have to be playing [two or] three more sets of doubles.”
The Australian was clearly against playing the format the way it is, as he and Kokkinakis withdrew from the competition.
Nick Kyrgios’ record in doubles at Wimbledon
Kyrgios’ ire about the best-of-five sets means he has never entered the men’s doubles, but he has played mixed doubles.
The Australian teamed with Venus Williams at Wimbledon in 2021 after the pair were given a wild card for the event.

Williams and Kyrgios won their first match after defeating Austin Krajicek and Sabrina Santamaria in the first round.
Their tournament was ended by a Kyrgios injury, which saw the pair give Édouard Roger-Vasselin and Nicole Melichar-Martinez a walkover.
Kyrgios called the decision ‘heartbreaking’ and said he had never had as much fun on a tennis court than when he was teaming with Williams.
