“There’s Been No Conversations,” Kamaru Usman Reveals Islam Makhachev Match Details

UFC legend Kamaru Usman has provided an update on the possibility of him squaring off with Islam Makhachev.

As we know, Kamaru Usman is one of the best champions of his generation. He ruled over the welterweight division for many years, but now, Islam Makhachev is the king at 170 pounds. Usman, meanwhile, is coming off the back of a nice win over Joaquin Buckley, and he’s in the twilight of his mixed martial arts career. Before he hangs up his gloves, though, he wants one more opportunity to hold the gold again.

Some don’t feel like Kamaru Usman is deserving of that opportunity, but in terms of star power, he’s one of the biggest names out there who Makhachev could collide with. From a legacy point of view, it’s an absolutely huge fight for both men and the division as a whole.

In a recent interview, Kamaru Usman had the following to say about a meeting with Makhachev.

Kamaru Usman provides Islam Makhachev fight update

“No, there’s been no conversations. But, you know, I it’s not a secret how I feel about Islam. I like Islam. I think he’s a great great champion, but I also feel that I am the best test in the division for him. And it’s and it’s almost kind of weird and surreal that I’m having to sell myself on my skill level on on, you know, on who I am and what I’ve done in the sport.

“So, it’s a little weird, but that’s the name of the game right now. It’s what have you done for me lately? So, you know, hopefully the UFC sees that and gives me that opportunity for me to go out there and show them once again that I am still the best in the world.”
