Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami talked about his close relationships with his teammates. He mentioned that Virat Kohli and Ishant Sharma are his closest friends, and they often called him while he was recovering from his injury. Shami, who was out of the game due to an injury since the 2023 One Day International World Cup, has started practicing again in the nets, which is a big step towards coming back to playing cricket. He was out of the game because of a problem with his right heel that needed surgery, and he has been closely watched by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during his recovery.
The fast bowler had surgery on his Achilles tendon earlier this year, which made him miss the IPL 2024 and the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Even though he faced these challenges, Shami has been preparing for his return and posted a video of him carefully bowling in practice sessions. While he has healed from the ankle injury, he hasn’t started bowling at his full strength yet. Shami is focusing on getting back into shape and needs approval from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) before he can play in matches again.
“Virat Kohli and Ishant Sharma are my best friends. They constantly kept calling me when I was injured,” Shami said on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel.
Shami was India’s top bowler in the 2023 One Day International World Cup, taking 24 wickets in seven games with an average of 10.70. Even with an ankle injury, he was very important for India’s strong showing in the ICC tournament held in India. But, before the England series in January, Shami had stiffness in his ankle and couldn’t get better in time for the T20 World Cup in 2024.
