This Bangladesh cricketing legend accused of murder: Reports

One of the finest all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is facing serious trouble again. This time, the former cricket star and ex-politician from the Awami League is mentioned along with others for supposedly being part of a murder that happened during protests in Bangladesh.

ESPNCricinfo’s report says the case is about the death of a garment worker, Mohammed Rubel, who was part of the protest on Ring Road in Adabor on August 5. The complaint was filed by the victim’s father, Mohammed Rubel.

The Daily Star mentioned a report that said the person who made the complaint claimed that some of the people being accused, following orders from others, either directly or indirectly, started shooting, and many students, including Rubel, were there.

The report also said that Rubel got hurt from the shooting and sadly died two days later in a hospital.

ESPNCricinfo’s report says that the experienced player, who can both bat and bowl, was not in the country on August 5 or during the protests that made Hasina quit being the Prime Minister. They think he was in Canada then, playing in the Global T20 Canada League and leading the Bangla Tigers Mississauga in Brampton. Before that, he was also in the United States, where he played in Major League Cricket.

After the Awami League left the Bangladesh government, there were significant changes in the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Faruque Ahmed, the previous captain, became the President of the national cricket organization.

Right now, Shakib is playing for the national team, and Bangladesh is competing against Pakistan in the first Test match in Rawalpindi. It’s not clear yet if Shakib will play in the rest of the series or if he will join the team for their trip to India, where they will participate in a two-match Test series and a three-match T20I series.
