Sri Lanka is scheduled to play against India in a series of three T20I matches beginning on July 27. The renowned Sanath Jayasuriya has temporarily assumed the role of head coach as the Lankan Lions aims to improve their performance in the T20I cricket format. Sri Lanka was eliminated in the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2024, and captain Wanindu Hasaranga resigned from his position.
To enhance their skills, Sri Lanka brought in Zubin Bharucha, the director of high performance from RR. Head coach Sanath Jayasuriya mentioned that Bharucha, known for his work with Yashasvi Jaiswal, conducted a six-day workshop with the players, during which they learned new techniques from the high-performance expert.
“We began these training sessions right after the Lanka Premier League. Many of the players were involved in the LPL, so they were focused on cricket, and our goal was for them to play as much cricket as possible,” Sanath Jayasuriya said in an interview with PTI.
“We brought in Zubin from the Rajasthan Royals, and we had about six days of practice with him and the other players who had finished the LPL. I hope the players have picked up what the management wanted them to learn in terms of practice and their techniques. It’s crucial for international cricketers to learn new techniques, approaches, and shot-making to be effective,” he continued.
Regarding the preparation for the upcoming series, Jayasuriya mentioned that the team will take a two-day break before the first match, which is set for July 27.
