Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi mentioned that it would be intriguing to watch how Gautam Gambhir utilizes the chance to coach the Indian senior men’s national team, expressing optimism about his new position. Afridi pointed out that Gambhir has always been direct in his opinions and sees this as a great opportunity for him to leave a significant impact in his new job.
Gautam Gambhir became the new coach of the Indian cricket team on Wednesday, July 10. He took over from Rahul Dravid, who had just led India to victory in the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean the previous month.
“This is a fresh chance for him, and it’s a positive thing. We’ll have to wait and see how he uses this chance. I’ve watched many of his interviews. He talks well and has a positive attitude. He is very direct,” Shahid Afridi said during an interview with Star Sports at the World Championship of Legends T20 tournament in the UK.
Just a few days ago, Afridi asked for stability in the Pakistan cricket team and suggested that the cricket board should support coaches and players in leadership roles for a longer time. In contrast, India has had no problems with their leadership group, as Rohit Sharma and Dravid have a good working relationship and have achieved positive results.
Gambhir’s new role has created a lot of excitement among cricket fans. Even though he has never coached a senior team before, the former Indian opening batsman has the support of the BCCI to succeed for India. Gambhir’s strategic skills and his successful experiences as a mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2024 and the Lucknow Super Giants in 2022 and 2023 have helped him gain this opportunity.
Gambhir has been given a three-and-a-half-year contract to manage the Indian cricket team during a time of change. Rohit, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja have all stopped playing in T20 matches after winning the World Cup, so the new head coach will need to find good players to take their places.
