This is Episode 584 of #CoffeewithLarry for March 7, 2026. The ASICS Marathon is coming, Deep thoughts on a busy first two months of 2026!

This is my daily chat with #RunBlogRun viewers and track fans on all things track & field! We go LIVE Monday-Saturday, at 10 Am Central time in the U.S.A. Email me at [email protected]!

Our topics:

1. The ASICS LA Marathon will celebrate its 41st edition this year!

2. ASICS took the race over as sponsor in 2019, I believe, and they have done an amazing job on this major event.

3. Back in the early 1990s, Fred Lebow, the late, great NYC marathon impressario noted to me that LA Marathon should be a great one! I believe it was event noted in the major magazines.

4. LA Marathon had seven ownership groups before it grew roots. Bill Burke and Marie Patrick, the mercurial team that also managed the LA 1984 Olympic tennis events, managed the Marathon for two plus decades, with some colorful asides. The McCourt Foundation took over the marathon about a decade ago, and ASICS came on board, once again, around 2019.

5. To learn more about this race, which I ran in 1987, in its inaugural run, in a pair of ASICS GEL Kayanos, I believe (in 3:51, my PB at the time was 2:48.12), go to www.lamarathon.com
