This Srilankan wicketkeeper suspended due to doping Violation

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) organization announced on Friday that Niroshan Dickwella, a player who keeps the wicket and bats, has been suspended without a set end date due to a violation related to using banned substances in sports. It is believed that Dickwella did not pass a test for banned substances, which was done according to international rules, during the recent Lanka Premier League. He will not be allowed to play any type of cricket while more investigation is done, according to a statement from Sri Lanka Cricket on Friday.

“The suspension starts now and will continue until we decide otherwise. The test, done by the Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency (SLADA) during the Lanka Premier League (LPL) in 2024, is part of SLC’s effort to keep the sport honest,” the SLC stated in a release.

“This program, done together with the Ministry of Sports and following the rules of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), is meant to keep cricket clear of banned substances,” the statement said.

“SLC, along with the Ministry of Sports and SLADA, does these checks randomly during local competitions to protect the sport from doping issues,” it added.

Dickwella, who last played for Sri Lanka in March 2023, led Galle Marvels in the LPL 2024. He was chosen for Sri Lanka’s T20I series against Bangladesh earlier this year but didn’t get to play any matches.

After being chosen, the people who picked the team said they had talked to Dickwella about his bad behavior. The left-handed player has often been in trouble during his career, and people often criticize him for not being consistent. He was one of three players banned in 2021 for breaking rules about staying in a safe place during the pandemic, along with Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilake.

Dickwella, who is 31 years old, has played for Sri Lanka in different types of games and has scored 2757 runs in Test matches, 1604 in One Day Internationals, and 480 in Twenty20 Internationals.
